New Position available – Consultant Clinical Oncologist
The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWOSCC) is seeking expressions of interest in initially, a long term locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join the Sarcoma team and TYA oncology, (another tumour site specific interest to be discussed with the Clinical Director).
The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC) is one of the United Kingdom’s largest and busiest cancer centre. The centre has undergone unprecedented investment and our clinical teams are redesigning the way oncology services are delivered to a catchment population of 2.9m people across four Health Board areas. It offers our team of professionals a truly state-of–the-art environment in which to practise and develop their skills. The Scottish Government and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will have spent 1.6b by 2015 on capital and infrastructure to best deliver care for the West of Scotland population.
An internationally-renowned teaching centre, the Cancer Centre incorporates the academic units of Medical Oncology, Clinical Oncology, Translational Research and Palliative Care. Glasgow is a large, lively and friendly city and a great place to make a home. In addition it has excellent transport links to other parts of Scotland, the UK and beyond.
The sarcoma team consist of Dr Fiona Cowie (FC) (Cons Clinical Oncologist sarcoma, TYA & paediatric radiotherapy) and Dr Jeff White (JW) (Consultant Medical Oncologist sarcoma, TYA and Germ Cell Tumours) and Catriona Graham, (Sarcoma CNS). The sarcoma team at BWOSCC functions as an integral part of the West of Scotland sarcoma team, which is in itself part of the Scottish Sarcoma Network (SSN). SSN treats all types of sarcoma (bone, soft tissue and GIST). Weekly National MDTs and weekly sarcoma team meeting within BWOSCC.
We have 1 main sarcoma clinic and second smaller clinic, each week and a fortnightly dedicated GIST clinic.
We have excellent working relationships with 3rd sector organisations such as Sarcoma UK, GIST Support UK and TCT.
We have dedicated age appropriate facilities and the TYA team consist of 2 site specific CNS, TCT youth support worker and Clic Sergeant social worker, plus those consultants with site specific interest in TYA cancer FC, JW, Nick Heaney (TYA and paediatric haemato-oncology). There are twice weekly TYA MDTs both regional and as part of Scotland wide Children & Yong People with Cancer Managed Clinical network (CYC MSN) www.youngcancer.scot.nhs.uk.
We wish to increase our clinic trial activity in both Sarcoma and TYA to meet the National Strategy in the Scottish Government Cancer plan for Children and TYA, www.youngcancer.scot.nhs.uk/managed-service-network/publications. We take part in NCRI sarcoma group and EORTC studies.
Informal discussions with FC or JW re sarcoma and TYA specific component of the post are welcomed and we are happy to arrange visits to meet the team.
